Time of Call: 12:00:00 EDT = 16:00:00 UTC

Duration: ~1 hour

Participants: Alan Ruttenberg, Emek Demir, Daniel Rubin, Elgar Pichler, Harsha Karur Rajasimha, Ken Fukuda, Ranjani Ramakrishnan, Matthias Samwald (please add yourself if you have participated and are missing from the list)

Scribe: Matthias Samwald

Ken Fukuda: Talks about INOH export. They are trying to avoid node duplication. They will have a discussion on this next week and will update the release by then.

Alan Ruttenberg: Did you look at the example we gave you?

Ken Fukuda: Yes.

Emek: Two threads of current development: a) States & Generics, b) Gene Regulation. At the time, Emek, Gary and others are working on simplifying the proposal and will present it to the group.

Emek: has anyone checked MIRIAM and related work? The URI/CV proposal is related to that, and we should have a look at it.

Alan Ruttenberg: Alan, Matthias and others gave a presentation on URIs at an ISWC conference: [WWW] http://biopaxwiki.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/UriCvNamespaceProposalJune2006/Inoh Alan will join the OBI (Ontology of Biomedical Investigation) workshop, maybe some of the things discussed there will be useful for BioPAX. However, the agenda is not very detailed. Alan will probably report on this.

Emek: The last suggestions (changing PARTICIPANTS property) was partly a mistake, the problem does not exist in the current BioPAX release.

Alan: There is a letter of support that might be signed by the BioPAX participants (Barry Smith et. al. would be supported). The BioPAX community as a whole would act as a “supporter”. Alan mailed the text to Skype participants.

(emek, matthias, daniel, ken, alan, elgar, andrea, ranjani, harsha agreed on writing the LOS as a community)

Alan: Alan talks about the development of a grant application for BioPAX (directed to the NCBO). Nothing was decided yet. Finding a good grant agency and procedure for a BioPAX – only grant turned out to be hard. The next deadline for a grant application is march. International cooperation is also somewhat problematic.

So far, Alan, Emek, Joanne, Nigam, and some others have been involved in getting information about the grant application, Chris Sander is also involved in the discussion.

Emek: Chris Sander and Barry Smith and Mark Musen met, there will be a grant application with Chris Sander as the PI. More information on that endeavour is not available at the moment.

Daniel Rubin: Writing such grants is very complicated, the task should not be underestimated. Important: Think it through, what are the driving biological questions, what are the collaborations good for?

Alan: There is already some conflict in the BioPAX community about the future directions. Alan: BioPortal, see [WWW] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-semweb-lifesci/2007Jan/0020.html and [WWW] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-semweb-lifesci/2007Jan/att-0048/00-part
