The Powerpoint slides below cover a set of principles being advocated by GO for the construction of useful ontologies in the physical Biological domains. At their heart are "7 Rules" advanxed by Barry Smith, who summarizes them on slide #103. Benefits are on slide #104.

I believe these rules and methods are highly relevant to BioPAX, and should be adopted as guidelines for portions of the ReleaseToolsProposal - in particular, for all the "core" BioPAX classes that attempt to model physical entities.

Models of abstract entities, which BioPAX must also address, would clearly need special exceptions, but most of the principles behind the 7 rules would be relevant. They can and should be adopted for any abstractions in "core", with suitably limited caveats (TBDL) being appended.

[WWW] GO Guidelines

The 37 lead-in slides on revision processes seem also relevant and sound, but they deal directly with an R&D methodology, to be separately addressed, versus the nature of the models it would create.

The last 14 slides, on usage examples from the world of GO, are merely informative, but they do help to illustrate how all the above might apply.

Discussion below is encouraged, but please do not bother "contributing" until you have actually downloaded the slides and gone through them all with an open mind.
